He had suffering some pain in the appendix region all the preceding week, but attended school and was even present at the Choral Club meeting at the schoolhouse Friday night. Drs. Tedrowe, Standifer and Wallace were called and their verdict after thorough examination was that young Dewey's trouble was appendictis and that he must be operated upon immediately. Saturday afternoon at three o'clock the operation was performed and the result completely certified the correctness of doctors' diagnosis, for the appendix was swollen badly, plus had formed and small hard pieces of pecan shell were found in the appendix, making an operation absolutely necessary and immediate. The surgical work was quick, acccurate and successful, but the patient's heart, never strong since his serious illness from typhoid fever, was not strong enough to restore his circulation after the operation and he died at three o'clock Monday afternoon. School adjourned at that hour and the funeral services were conducted at the Baptist Church by Prof. Scott, assisted by Rev. Mauldin, on Tuesday. The high school students attended in a body, the choir and pallbearers being his schoolmates. The service was one of the most impressive ever seen in Cheyenne. Our citizens unite in heartfelt sympathy with the bereaved family.
