Interment was in the Cheyenne Cemetery under the direction of Rose Chapel Funeral Service of Cheyenne. Melvin Calvin Davis was born July 18, 1924 in Alamogordo, NM to Annie Mae and Calvin Warren Davis and died August 6, 1992 in the Grand Place Nursing Center at 68. Davis moved from Alamogordo, NM to Cheyenne and married Tressie Lee Cantrell on October 30, 1942 in Sayre. The couple lived in Cheyenne before moving to Clinton and later to Elk City to make their home. Melvin had been a Pentecostal Preacher for a number of years and was known for his singing and guitar playing throughout southwest Oklahoma. He had an upholstery shop in Elk City until he had a car accident in December of 1980. In 1981, he moved to the nursing home in Sayre. He was a member of the Pentecostal Church. Davis was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, one brother and one grandchild. Survivors include his wife Tressie of the home; one daughter: Pamela D. Wills of Elk City; two sons: Melton Davis and his wife Frieda of Canute and Larry Davis and his wife Linda of Atascadero, Calif.; five sisters: Lenora Barrow of Sayre; Ellen Forester of Elk City; Loretta Martin and Elves Martin of Stillwater and Helen Boyett of Amarillo, Texas. Also, one brother: Leonard Davis of Baird, Texas, and 11 grandchildren plus a host of friends and relatives.
