Dawkins, Roger Mills county road maintaner, near his home five miles east of Cheyenne. Mr. Dawkins had just started to work dragging the old No. 24 highway and was only a quarter of a mile eat of his home when the accident occurred at about 8 o'clock. With the reins, with which he drive his team, wrapped about his body, he was using his hands in manipulating the light grader with which he was working the roads. As a doubltree broke he was jerked into the front wheels of the maintainer. Three ribs were broken and crushed in about his heart. He was died an hour later. Leonard Riggs, another county maintainer, happedned along soon after the accident and took Mr. Dawkins home. A physician rushed to the injured man's bedside saw to futility of trying to save him and anticipated the death which soon came, accoridng to informatin learned here. Funerl services will probably be held tomorrow at Cheyenne under auspices of the I.O.O.F. lodge, was learned from reliable authority in that city this afternoon. Mr. Dawkins is survived by his wife, Mrs. Dawkins and a married daughter who lives near her parent's home. ======== Surnames: Dawkins, Chance, Ward, Dodson, Sutton, Day James Minor Dawkins was born in Clay County, La., December 6, 1876 and died at his home four miles south of Cheyenne, July 21, 1931. On February 20, 1906 he was married to Mrs. Edna Chance at Cheyenne, Okla. To this union were born four children, Mrs. Alva Ward, Mrs. Edna Dodson, Irvin and Guy Dawkins all of Cheyenne. There were also six step-children, three preceeding him to the Great Beyond. Those surviving are: Tom Chance, and Mrs. Johnnie Sutton of Cheyenne and Mrs. May Day of Mounds, Okla. He leaves five grandchildren and several step-grandchildren. To know Mr. Dawkins was to like him and he numbered his friends by his acquaintances. He was of a quiet disposition, a devoted husband and a kind and loving father. His dear companion an children will ever recall his kind words on the morning that he met his departure Mr. Dawkins was the first man employed in Roger Mills County to maintain state Highway 24. He loved his work and did his work well and was praised near and far for the excellent work he did. Mr. Dawkins always showed the utmost courtesy to the public. If his team was in center of the highway he never failed to drive themn aside for others to pass. As the hundreds of persons passing him daily, he always raised a hand in greeting. The funeral service was conducted by the Rev.
