Brown Dugger was born April 14, 1913 in Hammon, Oklahoma to Nellie Maye Brown and Joe Arthur Dugger and went to be with his Lord on December 29, 1997 in Clinton Regional Hospital at the age of 84 years, 8 months and 14 days. Brownie grew up in Hammon where he graduated from Hammon High School in 1930. He then attended and graduated from Hills Business College in Oklahoma City, OK, Brownie then attended the University of Oklahoma. He married Ruth Cantrell on May 2, 1938 in Sayre, OK and they made thier home in Oklahoma City, OK until he entered the U.S. Navy in October 1942. Brownie served as a Navy Chief Warrant Officer in Hutchinson, KS and San Diego, CA, before being stationed at Keneh Naval Air Base in Honolulu, Hawaii. Following his discharge January 1946. Brownie and Ruth made their home in Hammon, OK where he went into the farming and ranching business with his brothers Richard L. Dugger. Over the years Brownie and Richard owned and operated Dugger Chevrolet and Dugger Implement Co. of Hammon along with several other business ventures in western Oklahoma and the Texas Panhandle. The partnership continued until Richard's death in 1992. Brownie continued farming and ranching until suffering a stroke in January 1995. Since his illness, Brownie and Ruth have made their home at the Heritage Care Center in Clinton, OK. Brownie and Ruth were married for 59 wonderful years. He and Ruth enjoyed traveling extensivley throughout the United States and many foreign countries. Brownie was a member and Deacon of the Hammon First Baptist church where he also served as Music Director for 45 years. He was a Charter Member of the Hammon Lions Club. Brownie was a musical entertainer. He and Ruth opened their home on many occasions where Brownie would entertain their friends and family playing the organ, piano and the saxophone. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Edrey and Richard L. Dugger and four sisters, Maye Dugger, Althea Flynt, Muriel Rice and Marie Vignal. He is survived by his wife Ruth of the home; one brother, Harry Dugger and wife, Martha Toye Dugger, Andarko, OK; one sister in law, Irene Dugger, Elk City, OK; six nephews, Richard L. Dugger, Bill Dugger, Chanucey V. Rice, Charles Vignal, Joe Flynt and John Dugger, three nieces, Carrol Edgell, Sue Campbell and June Morgan, and a host of other relatives and friends. Services were at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, december 31, 1997 at the Hammon First Baptist church officiated by Rev. Bart Montgomery, and assisted by Rev. Gerald Biswell.
