Departed this life January 27, 1966 in the Veteran's Hospital in Oklahoma City. His attained age being 70 years 2 months and 11 days. "Dick" as he was familarly known by his many friends, came to this area with his parents in 1897 and has resided in the Colter Community ever since. On February 23, 1918, he answered his countrys call and entered service at Clinton, Oklahoma and served over sea for some time, returning to the states in 1919 he received an honorable discharge on June 21, 1919 at Camp Pike, Arkansas. He was a member of the Church of Christ and the Hammon American Legion. On November 14, 1943 he was united in marriage to Mattie McGehee in Reno, Nevada, she survives him, other survivors include a sister, Mrs. A.M. Rennels of Carpenter; two brothers, Almer of Canute and Ernest of Elk City, other relatives and his many, many friends.
