Conducting the services were Rev. R. G. Benefield, Cheyenne, and Rev. John Paul Jones, of Burns Flat, Oklahoma. Burial was in the Sayre-Doxey Cemetery, Sayre, Beckham County, Oklahoma. (Later he was moved to Mound Valley Cemetery, Thomas, Oklahoma) In the passing of Mel Danner, Cheyenne, loses its Secretary of the Chamber of Commerce as well as one of its most active and influential citizens. In commenting upon his death Fred Cordell, president of the Chamber of Commerce, said, "In the passing of Mel Danner we have lost a good neighbor and a friend to all. The community has lost a good civic worker, one who was interested in its welfare." " He was a good business man and a good citizen. The community will miss hims, "said L.L. Males. Of Mr. Danner, one who had known him most of his life-time and one of his closest friends, Elmer Rook said, "Mel as a true christian, Fair and just in all his actions, and one who enjoyed life am thankful that I have known him. I am a better person for having known him." Daniel Melvin Danner was born in Macon, Missouri on August 23, 1998. He came with his parents to Oklahoma in the arly days, and spent most of his boyhood in Sayre where he graduated from hight school. Soon thereafter he became assistant cashier of First National Bank of that city, which position he held for 17 years. From 1936 to 1939 he was employed by the Bank of America in Los Angeles. Mr. Danner returned to Oklahoma about 1940 and entered the theatre business. He operated theaters in Granite, Thomas and Waynoka. In 1964 he retired from the theater business and came to Cheyenne where he purchased a Variety Store. He sold this business in 1971, thinking he would retire. But retirement was not for Mel Danner. Soon thereafter he accepted an offer to become Secretaary of the Cheyenne Chamber of Commerce, which position he held at the time of his passing. Mel Danner was an active memberr of the Methodist Church. Immediate survivors are his wife, Frankie to who he had been married more than fifty years, a daughter, Melruth Keller, her husband, Calvin and their daughter Cara, all of Thomas, Oklahoma. Death came to Mr. Danner Sunday, January 21, 1973, in St. Anthony's Hospital in Amarillo, Texas, after a few days illness.
