"Jack" and Dimple Thurman. She passed away at her home in Kansas City, Missouri on May 7, 1994. She attended schools in Hooker, Oklahoma and Kansas City, Missouri. She graduated from Northeast High School, Kansas City, Missouri in 1941. She attended college at Panhandle A&M College, Goodwell, Oklahoma. She was a member of Cheyenne, Oklahoma Eastern Star Chapter, Sorosis Club, and Oklahoma Cowbelles. She was a president of the General Federation of Women's Clubs of Oklahoma 9163-64. She was a member of the Loma Vista Baptist Church in Kansas City, Missour. Peggy taught school for a time at a private school in Virginia in the early 40's and for a while, she taught Girls Auxiliary Sunday School at the First Baptist Church in Cheyenne, Oklahoma. She was employed by channell 8 TV in Elk City, Oklahoma for a few years and went to work for WDAF Radion and TV, Kansas City, Missouri in 1965. She was the National Sales Coordinator for WDAF TV when she retired in 1988. After her retirement, she did volunteer work near her home in Kansas City, Missouri for the libraary at Ingels Elementary School and sewed many costumes and flags for the Hickman Mills High School Color Guard Corps. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Dimple Thurman; her brother, John W. Thurman; and husband, Russell L. Derry. She is survived by two sons and their wives, Gene and Jean Eakins of Kansas City, Missouri and Bruce and Linda Eakins of Cheyenne, Oklahoma; four grandchildren, Amy Haven and husband, Ray of Cheyenne, Oklahoma, Nikki Eakins of Kansas City, Missouri, Justin Eakins of Weatherford, Okalhoma and Lindsay Eakins of Kansas City, Missouri; one aunt and two nieces, and many, many cousins and beloved friends. Graveside services were held Wednesday, May 11, 1994 at 2:00 p.m. in the Bellview Cemetery, Roger Mills County, OK with A.L. Martin officiating. Eulogies will be given by Jiggs Krober and J. Warren Chalfant.
