Interment followed in the Red Star Cemetery under the direction of Martin Funeral Home of Elk City. Orpha Glee Nickels Dean was born August 22, 1921 to John and Bertha Nickles in the family home on their farm outside of Hammon, Oklahoma and passed away Monday, July 6, 2009 at the age of 87. Orpha attended school at Union Center through the 8th grade and finished her education at Hammon High School in 1940. After graduation, she moved to Tulsa in 1942 to work in the postal department for Douglas Aircraft, where she worked for three years during World War II. After her future husband, Ted Dean, was discharged from the Navy, he went to Tulsa to find his high school sweetheart, and they were married in Tulsa, Oklahoma on Valentine's Day, February 14, 1946. They farmed and ranched north west of Hammon most all of their married life. Six months after Ted and Orpha were married, Orpha was pregnant with their first child, Greta Kay Dean, who was born April 13, 1947. A year later on April 30, 1948, the second child, Andy Lee Dean, was added to the family. Orpha was a homemaker, mother and farmer and ranch wife. As the years passed, they continued to increase the size of their ranch and built a new home in 1960 where they have continued to reside. Over the years Orpha kept her family involved in numerous church activities at the Hammon Church of Christ, where Ted and Orpha both taught Bible classes as well as help with Vacation Bible School and youth activities. Orpha was also involved in the American Legion and the Hammon Round-Up Club. Orpha was preceded in death by her parents, John Bird Nickels and Bertha Iola Nickels; her sisters, Beula Mays, Opal Ashworth, Dixie Lovelace, Lureo Dean, Nadine Horache and her brother, J.B. Nickels, Jr. She is survived by her husband Ted Dean of the home; her daughter Greta Goolsby and husband Jim of Weatherford, Texas; her son Andy Dean and wife Marilyn of Edmond, Oklahoma; four grandchildren Ryan Goolsby, Janee Reeder and husband Bart of Dallas, Texas; Jason Dean and wife Laura of Edmond; Jerrod Dean and wife Laura of Edmond; Jerrod Dean and wife Courney of Edmond; seven great grandchildren, Juliette and Vivian Reeder; Chandler, Addison and Jackson Dean; and Darci and Chloee Dean.
