Defense Department officials said Sgt. Bedford Lee Drinnon died as a result of hostile action in the Indochina war. "It bothered me Drinnon's brother, Franklin Drinnon, said when the family received the news from Army officials. "I never saw a lot of sense in fighting that war anyway. It would have been different if it was like World War II, but it wasn't. I couldn't see where it helped any to fight this thing." The brother said the Army spokesman who spoke to Mr. and Mrs. Buster Drinnon, his parents, had no specific information how Drinnon, a member of the 3rd Battalion, lst Calvary Division (Airmobile), was killed. He thought it may have been in connection with fighting near Saigon, where several soldiers were injured and one man killed. He was the first casualty from Hammon and the 1,086th Oklahoman killed in the war during the last nine years. Drinnon graduated from Hammon High School in 1968 and was inducted into the service in June, 1970. Funeral arrangements are pending. Funeral services were held at Hammon Tuesday, January 11, 1972 at 2:00 p.m. Cheyenne Star, Cheyenne, OK 13-Jan-1972 --------------------------------------------------------------------- Return to Roger Mills Archives http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/rogermills/rogermills.html
