All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== Surnames: Estes, Peterson, Mansfield, Kunselman Leon Keever Estes, 82 years old, a native of Oklahoma passed away at Reche Canyon Rehabilitation Center. Sunrise was December 19, 1920. Sunset was June 22, 2003. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy on the submarine tender USS Fulton as an electrician from 1941 to 1945. He loved square dancing and was a square dance caller for many years. Leon served a secretary, vice president and president of the Cow Counties Caller's Association. He was made an honorary member. Leon retired in 1983 as assistant park superintendent at Mojave Narrowds Regional Park. He also worked for San Berardino County for 20 years. After retirement there, he worked as a land sales Raaltor for United California Realty. Part of his heart and many friends were in Oklahoma. Hre enjoyed keeping in touch with the friends he went to school with 63 years ago. In fact, he was in Oklahoma for a school reunion when he became so very ill. His first wife, Margaret Peterson Estes, preceded him in death in 1964. Those left to mourn him are his wife of 36 years, Alice, daughter Vicky Estes Mansfiled and her husband, Bradley, of Santa Barbara; daughter Mary Lynn Estes Kunselman and her husband Byron, of Pennsylvania and son David and his wife, Holly, of Redlands. He had seven grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and a host of dear friends. His humor, love and care of his family will never be forgotten and will live on through his family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Leon's name to Victor Valley SDA School, 17136 Crestview Drive, 17136 Crestview Drive, Victorville, California 92392, or to the American Diabetes Association. A memorial service was hel at 11:30 a.m. Friday at the Victorville SDA Church of Greentree, with Pastor Ron Kendall officiating. Victor Valley Mortuary handled the arrangements.
