The son of Jesse and Annie Eakins, (Sam) as he was known to his friends, grew to manhood in Roger Mills County. In 1930 he moved with his father and mother to Elida, New Mexico, where he has made his home since that time. He was engaged in farming and ranching. Same was never married, and has devoted his life to the care of his father and mother. His father preceded him in death in 1944. Since that time he has continued to live with his mother on their ranch at Elida. Sam's friends were numbered by all who knew him. He was especially fond of children. His kindness his devotion to those who were near and ear to him shall always be remembered affectionately. He was a long time member of the Woodman of the World Chapter at Elida. Sam passed away on Sunday morning April 20th, 1952 at the age of 46 years and 27 days. Survivors are: his mother, Mrs Annie Eakins of Elida, New Mexico; one sister, Mrs. Lillie Barton; one brother, B.L. Eakins, both of Crawford; two nephews, J.B. Eakins, and Bobby Barton, of Crawford; two great nephews, Bruce and Gene Eakins, also of Crawford.
