Eakins, pioneer resident of Roger Mills county, who died at Shattuck hospital, Monday, January 10, 1944 at 6:00 a.m. following an illness of one year, were held Wednesday, January 12, 1944 at 2:30 p.m. at the Belleview school with Reverend C.S. Bryant of Cheyenne officiating. Mr. Eakins was born September 28, 1878 near Canyon City, Oregon in the Indian Territory days and came to Oklahoma before statehood and before 1900. He was married to Annie Lilley in Cheyenne, February 14, 1900. He lived in and near that community until 13 years ago when he moved to Elida, New Mexico. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Annie Eakins, one daughter, Mrs. Lillie Barton of Durham; two sons, B.L. of Durham and Sam of Elida, New Mexico; one grandson, J.B. Eakins and one great grandson of Durham; two brothers, Noel of Clovis, New Mexico and George of Hammon; three sisters, Mrs. Grace Grubes of Wichita, Kansas, Mrs. Bob Crockett of Altus, Oklahoma and Mrs. N.J. Lacey of Coolidge, Arizona. Burial was in the Bellview cemetery, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma with Littrell-Scroggins in charge of arrangements.
