Obit for Glen Robert Focht

In front of the Crawford high school auditorium at 2:00 o'clok Ocrboer 15, 1958 
there was assembled Automobiles from at least eight Oklahoma counties, two Texas 
counties and one Kansas county.  Possibly this was the largest aggregation of 
cars ever assembled at Crawford.  On the inside was gathered the larges crowd 
I ever saw at a country funeral.  They were gathered to pay their last respects 
to a Roger Mills County farmer who had passed away two days before on
October 13, 1958.

Glen Robert Focht was born in Phillipsburgh, Kansas, April 8, 1894.  He came 
with his parents, 3 brothers and 1 sister to Day County, Oklahoma Territory, 
and they settled on a homestead two miles north of the Antelope Hills in the 
spring of 1906.

Glen had never lived in any other neighborhood in the 52 years since he came 
here at the age of 12.

He went into the Army in 1918 and was wounded in baattle October 11, 1918.  
He was hit five times so close together he didn't know which one came first.  
He was discharged early in 1919 and came back to the "Bend" where he had lived 
ever since.

On Jun 15, 1921, he married to Johnnie McQuigg, daughter of John McQuigg and 
they had lived in the Bellview community ever since.

After coming to Oklahoma, he attended the Bellview school.  The only surviving 
teachers I know of are Klina potter, now Mrs. John Casady, and Art Squire his 
last teacher.  Glen and Johnnie raised one daughter, Oleta, now Mrs. Ted Appel of 
Shattuck, who is the mother of 6 daughters, all of whom attended the last rites. 

The remains were laid to rest in Bellview cemetery, Roger Mills County, 
Oklahoma one mile from Glen's home, with American Legion honors.

Glen will be missed by a large acquantances as anyone any place ever was.  
He was always  a hard worker, a good neighbor, and a helpful friend, strickly honest.

He also had a host of good neighbors and very helpful friends as might be 
seen in the help given the family in their time of trouble.  He leaves his 
wife, his daughter Oleta and her husband, Ted, and their six daughters, 
besides 3 brothers and 1 sister.

Rev A.L. Martin of Crawford was the officiating minister.

Casket bearers were Claud Newell, Johnny Keahey, Walter Gantz, Bernard Eakins, 
Jim A. Brown and Bob Goodwin.  Scroggins Funeral Home of Cheyenne had charge
of the service.
