All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== Surnames: Funston, Pond, Allen, Phelan James Alfred Funston, age 85 of Marysville, died December 26, 1990 in an Everett Hospital. He was born September 9, 1905 at Lee's Summit, Missouri and was raised in Oklahoma. He was baptized in the Southern Baptist Church in 1932 and became a ordained deacon, Sunday School teachewr and superintendant. Mr. Funston ran independant telephone exchanges in Western Oklahoma and Texas and put up many of the first phone lines in those areas. In 1947, they moved to Canyon, Texas where he was in the drug store business. The family moved to Medford, Oregon in 1953 and he was a barber for many years before retiring. He continued an active member of the Southern Baptist Church in Oregon and was also a lifetime member of the Masonic Lodge. Mr. Funston leaves his wife of 62 years, Opal at home; a daughter and son- in-law, Mary Ellen and Charles Pond of Jerome, Idaho; 3 sons and daughters-in-law, James P. and Gloria Funston of Marysville, Fred and Diann Funston of Las Vegas, Nevada; Dr. Al and Joe Dee Funston of Riddle, Oregon; a sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Lonnie Allen of Hope, Alaska; 13 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by brothers, Wayne and Paul, a daughtger Rowena Phelan and granddaughter, Cynthis Rene Funston. Funeral services were at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the First Souther Baptist Church, 145th and Shoultes Rd. Marysville with Pastor Ron Beutel officiating, burial will follow at 12:30 p.m. at Marysville Cemetery. Memorials may be made to either the First Southern Baptist Church or the American Heart Association. Visitation 3-6 p.m. Friday at Schaefer-Shipman Funeral Home, Marysville.
