Fariss passed away January 2, 1998. Services were at the First United Methodist Church, Leedy, Oklahoma on Monday, January 5, 1998 at 10:30 a.m., Rev. Jess Willsie of Shattuck, Oklahoma and Kim Domnick, Pastor of Leedey United Methodist Church officiated. Interment was in the Evergreen Cemetery, Leedey, Oklahoma. Georgie, the daughter of Milton and Ethel Farris was born August 3, 1923 in Leedey, Oklahoma. Georgie attended Trail and Leedey Schools and graduated from Leedey Public School in the Class of 1941. Georgie was employed by the Local Soil Conservation District until its closure in 1966. She then commuted to Clinton-Sherman Air Force Base as a civilian employee until 1970. Following the shutdown of Clint-Sherman, she worked for the Selective Service in Taloga and Cheyenne until her retirement in 1973. Georgie was a life long resident of the Leedey and Trail community. Georgie was a devoted member of the First United Methodist Church. She became a member on November 7, 1948. Georgie was honored for having taught elementary Sunday School Class for 43 continuous years. Georgie also served on the Finance and PPR committees in the church. Georgie's retirement years were filled with service volunteer programs: Secretary-Treasurer of Leedey Clinic Association, Inc., Area Agency on Aging, Ombudsman for the Leedey Nursing Center, Weatherford District RSVP, various offices of the Dewey County Historical Society and an Inductee of Dewey County Hall of Fame in 1992. Helping at the nursing center were treasured hours for Georgie. A trip to town for friends, for Dr. appointments, visits, crocheting, quilting, and raising flowers. Georgie passed from this life on January 2, 1998 at the Baptist Medical Center in Oklahoma City. She was preceded in death by her parents Ira Milton and Florence Ethel Fariss. Living to cherish her memories are her sister and brother in law Dorothy and Wendell Jones of Elk City and her brother and sister in law Ira and Fincel Farris of Leedey. Georgie had two nieces and their husbands, Helen and Jim King, Dixie and Allen Arnold; two nephews and their wives, Gail and Sandra Jones, Louis and Cynthia Fariss; five great nieces, Shelly Mayfield, Lexy and Lin Fariss and Natalie and Erin Arnold; two great nephews, Shawn Whorton and Jordan Arnold and other family members and a great number of friends.
