He became known as M.H. to both family and friends, grew up in the area of Leedey and spent the majority of his life there. He passed away at his home in Leedey on December 26, 1999, at 80 years, 2 months, and 25 days of age. He was raised in the home of loving parents and attended school in Leedey. Following a fire that destroyed the Leedey School, M.H. transferred to the high school at Weatherford, Oklahoma, where he graduated with the Senior Class of 1936. He then attended college at Oklahoma A& M College in Still water (now Oklahoma State University) for a period of 3 years before returning to Leedey where he began pursing his career in farming and ranching. M.H. and Lola Faye McCaslin were united in marriage at Leedey on August 7, 1940. Two children, Theodore (Ted) and Linda Faye were born to this happy union. Not long after their marriage, M.H. and Lola Faye moved to a ranch near Ardmore, Oklahoma, and they returned to Leedey and set up their agriculture operation there. They remained in farming and ranching until their retirement in 1969. After retirement, M.H. took up carpentry and worked with his long time friend, Lowell Rounds. They had worked together on the construction of the new sanctuary of their home church, the Leedey United Methodist Church, in 1966-67 and M.H. decided both the work and the fellowship he had with Lowell and other carpenter friends was enjoyable enough to pursue on at least a part time basis. He did find time to enjoy his other interests of woodworking, watching sports events, traveling with Lola Faye and playing with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. M.H. was a member of the Leedey Masonic Lodge, and a member of the Lions Club. He was intensely interested in the welfare of his community, school and church. He was honored for his work with the local Future Farmers of America chapter when they awarded him Honorary Membership in the Leedey FFA. His long and worthy record of work in the First United Methodist Church of Leedey is notable for his having served as Sunday School superintendent, as a Sunday School teacher and assistant, and for holding most offices for laypersons within the church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Medlin and Ida Fariss and by a brother, Allen Fariss. He is survived by his beloved wife, Lola Faye, of Leedey home; by his son and daughter-in-law, Ted and Robetha Fariss; by his daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Sherm Lauder; by grandson, Monty Fariss, his wife Jana and their children, Chance and Briann; by granddaughter, Valerie Fariss; by grandson, Ryan Lauder; by granddaughter, Stacy Villines and her husband, Nathan; and by a number of nieces, nephews, other dear relatives and a great number of friends.
