In 1942, he moved with his family to the Crawford community where he attended school and graduated from Crawford High School. Gene attenced college in Wichita, KS and Shawnee, OK. In 1951, he joined the Army where he served in the Korean Conflict until December 1952. He lived in Wichita, KS, until 1958 when he moved to Roll, OK. In June 1960, he was married to Dora Springer and moved to Cheyenne. He worked with the Little League, was a Cub Scout Master and a member of the Kiwanis Club. Gne worked 17 years for the Oklahoma Department of Transportation as the Transportation Maintenance Supervisor of Roger Mills County. He was a long time member of the Cheyenne First Baptist Church. On May 25, 1985, Gene was married to Flo Jean Reed in Cheyenne where they continued to make their home. Preceding him in death were his parents and one sister, Margie. Those who survive him are his wife, Flo Jean of the home, daughters, Malinda Freeman and her husband Richard, Kathy Ford, 1 son Scott Ford and his wife, Carolyn, step-daughter, Sharon Daniel and her husband, William, 2 step-sons, Ryan and Bradley Reed, all of Cheyenne, sister, Dorothy Ator of Denver, brother, Roy Ford of Wichita, KS and a host of other relatives. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, October 8, 1986 at 2 P.M. in the First Baptst Church of Cheyenne with Aubrey Cowan and A.L. Martin officiating. Graveside rites were conducted by the Altus Air Force Base Honor Guard. Interment followed in the Silent Home Cemetery, Roll, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma under the direction of Rose Chapel Funeral Service of Cheyenne. Pallbearers were: Gene Whitson, Tommy Conway, Emmett Morris, Mark Dodson, Richard Bright and Willie Springer.
