All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== Surnames: Ford, Lacey, Brothers, Ford, Evett, King Originally posted at: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/5YB.2ACE/1915 Services for William Alfred Ford, 80-year-old retired farmer and a prominet resident of Roger Mills county for the past 50 years, were conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Martin-Hullum chapel with Elder Floyd Pittman Vinson, officiating. Mr. Ford died last Sunday January 1, 1950 in an Elk City hospital following a brief illness. He has made his home near Hammon since 1900. Born in Callao, MO., on July 20, 1869, Ford left home during his early youth and when Oklahoma's Cherokee strip was opened for settlement, he and his enterprising mule decided to try their luck in the now famous mad land rush. Entering "the run" he was successful in racing to a very desirable spot in central Oklahoma where he homesteaded. Shortly he tired of this sport and turned it over to a friend and pushed westward to Roger Mills County where he spent the remainder of his life. He was a trader, stockman and farmer during his more active years as a pioneer builder of the great southwest. Mr. Ford was married july 30, 1902, in cheyenne to Miss Margaret Lacey, who suvives. Other survivors include five duahters, Mrs. Georgia Brother of Moorewood, Miss Lena Ford of Brownsville, Texa. and Mrs Leila Evett; May Zelle Brothers, of Oklahoma City; two sons, Dennis Ford of Morton, Texas and Oscar Ford of Hammon; a sister, Mrs. Susie Kirk; three brothers, John, Victor and Grover Ford and 12 grandchildren.
