District attorney John B. Wright said Monday that murder charges were to be f6560037d against David Mance, 30, in the shooting of Tom Farmer, former Hammon, Oklahoma, resident, near Maxwell Friday. Mance admitted shooting Farmer, widely known northeastern New Mexico rancher, at an inquest held a few hours after the fatal shot was fired, December 14, 1951. Farmer was shot and killed after an argument between the two men over whether Farmer was driving his truck on Mance's private road or a public road. When Farmer started to drive down the fence line, Mance told the corner's jury, he fired a "warning shot." The bullet ripped into the side of the truck and grazed the leather jacket Farmer was wearing. He stopped the truck. Mance said he saw Farmer pick up his rifle and step out on the other side of the truck. "That time I meant it," Mance said. His second shot fired through the rear window of the pickup at a distance of 65 feet, killed him instantly.
