Gates, age 75, Big Spring, Texas, passed away Thursday February 18, 1988 in a Big Spring hospital following an extended illness. Services were held Saturday February 20, 1988 at 11:00 a.m. at Myers and Smith Funeral Chapel with Rev. Flynn Long, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial followed in Trinity Memorial Park under the direction of Myers and Smith Funeral Home. Glenn O. Gates was born August 27, 1912 in Durham, Oklahoma. On August 24, 1940 Glenn and Gerry Adair were united in marriage in Granite, Oklahoma. Glenn served in the South Pacific during World War II. He graduated from Southwestern Tech in Weaterford, Oklahoma in 1942. He founded Rural Electric Coop in Clayton, New Mexico in 1948. They moved to Stanton, Texas in 1951 and Glenn became manager of Wes-Tex Telecope in 1952 and served as manager until retiring in 1979. Mr. and Mrs. Gates then moved to Big Springs in October 1979. He was a member and past master of Stanton Masonic Lodge #951 and District Deputy Grand Master in 1963. He is survived by his wife, Gerry Gates of Big Spring; 1 daughter, Mrs. Smitty (Gay) Smith of Big Spring, 1 sister, Mrs. Ilene Sanve of Cheyenne, Oklahoma and 1 granddaughter. He is preceeded in death by Mr. and Mrs. Karl Gates; 4 brothers and 1 sister.
