Githens, 77, of Perryton, Texas died January 8, 2001. Funeral services were held on January 11, 2001 at the First Christian Church, with Dr. Jeff Knighton officiating. Burial followed in Ochiltree Cemetery, under the direction of Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home. He was born March 28, 1923 in Crawford, Oklahoma and had lived in Ochiltree in the notia Community since 1948. He served in the United States Army from 1943-45, during World War II, serving in England, Normandy Beach and other points in Europe, earning four Bronze Battle Stars. He was married to Arlee Blurton on December 20, 1945, in Sayre, Oklahoma. A farmer-rancher, he was a member of the First Christian Church. He and his wife were also manager-operators of the Conley and Sam's Corner Elevators seasonally for 18 years. He served on the Perryton Equity Advisory Board, the Ochiltree County Farm Bureau Board, was a former member of the Perryton School Board, and volunteered with 4-H and FFA youth for many years. He was preceded in death by a son, Bob Githens; a grandson, Todd Githens; his parents, Sam and Blanch Penny Githens; his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. J.L. Penny; and a sister, Ailene Bowler. He is survived by his wife, Arlee, of the home; one son, Dale Githens of Perryton; two brothers, Carl Githens of Hinton, Oklahoma and Leon Githens of White City, Oregon; four grandchildren; and one great grandchild. Memorials may be made to the Ochiltree General Hospital or one's favorite charity.
