Slin started working in the oil fields of West Texas when only seventeen years of age and had acquired a masters degree in the school of hard knocks having lived for short periods of time all over the U.S. In 1969, after living in Cheyenne only two years, Slim became a business partner with his young son, Ric, in Gillispie and Son Drilling Co. Working hard came naturally to this man born on January 29, 1913, but another natrual abilities (and one many adults never achieve) was "playing". Slim had a deep love for young people and became involved and active with them in sports, school and just every day life. This love was deeply felt by all of those who came to know Slim and Shirley Gillispie. In 1980, Slim semi retired due to failing health, still received his biggest pleasure in life by making sure those around him were happy. We will miss that big tall man, who could make you so mad if the twinkle in his eyes would not have been so bright. Slim is survived by wife, Shirley, and three sons.
