Audbrey Cowan officiating. Graveside rites were conducted by the Oklahoma Law Enforcement Honor Guard. Burial was in the Silent Home Cemetery, near Roll, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma. Services were under the direction of Martin Funeral Home. Charles Leon Gilliland was born December 18, 1927 in Roger Mills County of Charles Reed and Pauline Opal Gilliland and passed away Thursday in Mercy Health Center at the age of 58. He grew up in Roger Mills County and finished high school at Craawford, Oklalhoma. He also attended Southwestern Oklahoma State College in Weatherford. He married Mary Katherine Ackley, July 3, 1966 in Cheyenne and she survives him. He served in law enforcement for sixteen years, serving fourteen of those years as Sheriff of Roger Mills County. He attended all law enforcement training academy curriculum offered while in office. He completed his career in the Sheriff's department in 1975 although he was still active in law enforcement serving as City marshall for the City of Cheyenne for one year. He then returned to full time farming until his health forced him to retire in 1977. He had been hospitalized some two hours before his death. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Cheyenne and a member of the retired varied Law and Peace Officers' organizations. Preceding him in death were his father, C.R. Gilliland and his grandparents, J.M. and Ollie Parker. Besides his wife Kaye, of the home, he is survived by his mother, Mrs. Pauline Gilliland of Elk City. One son, Charles Ross Gilliland of Tulsa; two daughtgers: Suzie Lowrance of Oklahoma City and Leaonna Kay Gilliland of Cheyenne. Also one sister, Beverly Elledge of Elk City and four grandchildren. Casket bearers were: Doug Shockey, Don Dye, Glen Kendall, Weldon Davis, Don Cearlock and Frank Mayer.
