George entered into eternal rest in Christ on Tuesday, March 21, 2000. As he whished, he passed from this earthly life at the home of his daughter Loretta K. Glenn and Dick Haynes, with son Larry H. Glenn at his side. George was "Grandpa" to Gregory Haynes of Rocklin, California and Christine Haynes Cantrall of Sacramento, California, and Michael and Catherine Glenn of Napa, California. He enjoyed being "Old Grandpa" to Nicole Haynes of San Diego, California, Alyssa and Haylee K. Haynes of Rocklin, California and Russell Haynes of Lincoln, Nebraska and to Angela Berger and Caroline Cantrall of Sacramento, California. Raise in Strong City, Oklahoma, George was the fourth of seven children. He was married to Lucyle Hess Glenn of Elk City, Oklahoma on December 24, 1939 until her death on July 8, 1973. He was also preceased by his parents: brothers Loyd and Nelson; and sister Margaret. He is survived by three sisters, twins, Merle Little and Pearl McGehee of Yucca Valley, California and Alene Robinson of Strong City, Oklahoma; and six neices and nephrews. As a veteran of the U.S. Army, 1945-1946, he served first as an auto mechanic and then, by chance, as Mess Sergean. On the troop ship M.S. Klipfontein, it was discovered there was not a cook on board for the enlisted soliders. After two days of hard boiled eggs and weiners, George stepped forward to say he had some kitchen experiece and could do better than that! He took over the galley and later the officers mess on Saipan. "George C." or "Glenn" as he was sometimes called, enjoyed a full and vaired life in Roger mills County, Oklahoma as a youth and later, in northern and southern California. He was a resident of Los Angeles County from the later 1930's to 1961, when the family moved to Napa, California, where George lived throughout the 1960's to early 1970's. At the time, he applied his trade as a structural and pipe welder at the Kaiser/Napa Pipe Facility, as well as Bassalt, and at his own shop and welding business. He moved to Sacraento for a season, then to the Yucca Valley area to be near his mother and three sisters. Mother Ella lived to see 103 years and George was able to assist in her later years, as he also did for his beloved sister Margaret and her dear husband Ray W. Dye. It was here he also lived with Lydia. George enjoyed an active life, and his days with wife Stella were among some of his happiest in Bernica and Vallejo. Here he delighted all with his knack for growing huge crops of vegetables and sharing with neighbors, as well as doine his own canning and preparing of original receipes. Gardening, cooking, baking and canning were his primary hobbies, as well as fishing and traveling. George enjoyed a trip "home' to Strong City and Cheyenne, Oklahoma last October where he enjoyed fond memories, especially of his times at the local Baptist Church. With failing health, George was moved from his Yucca Valley home February 7, 2000 to Napa to be with his family. He will be loved and greatly missed by all who knew him. A celebration of George's life was held Saturday, March 25, 2000 at 2 p.m., at the Treadway & Wigger Funeral Chapel, Napa, California with Pastor Bill Walden of Cornerstone Ministries, Napa, officiating, assisted by American Leon State Chaplain Tom Sarchiapone. Interment was at Melrose Abbey Memorial Park, Anaheim, California.
