David was born on September 7, 1972 to David Leon and Winnie Gilmer in Wheeler, Texas. Services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 28, 2005 at the Fort Elliott Gymnasium in Briscoe, Texas under the direction of Wright Funeral Home. Rev. Andy Taylor, pastor of Trinity Fellowship of Sayre, Oklahoma officiated. He was assisted by Shawn Zybach. Interment followed at the Gageby Cemetery. David had been employed by Nabors Drilling for a number of years, serving as a toolpusheer until his illness. David married Shannon Simmons of Wheeler on April 18, 2000. When not working he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially their little girl, Adley, who just turned five. David adored his little girl and spent many joyous days taking her fishing, four-wheeling, hunting prairie dogs and doing anything her heart desired. David was diagnosed with oral cancer 14 months ago. Despite great obstacles along the way he remained strong, never once complaining and as much as his body would allow him to do each day. His humor, kind heart and "thumbs up" signal that all was well, no matter what physical pain he was dealing with, will be greatly missed. He is survived by his wife, Shannon , of the home; his daughter, Adley, of the home; his parents, David L. and Winnie Gilmer of Briscoe; two sisters, Tonya Finsterwald of Mobeetie and his adoring and dedicated nieces, Maddie and Kaitlin Shields of Canadian. He is also survived by a specfial cousin, Monty Hand and a lifelong friend, Ben Meadow, both of whom he held so very dear. Pallbearers were Monty Hand, Ben Meadows, David Hale, Darrem Hefley, John Shields and Will Snelgrooes. Honorary Pallbearers were Tim Bennett, Danny Debose, Ike Finsterwald, Larry Finsterwald, Shane Goad, Lester Habekatt, Keith Horn, Clint Huff, Richard Meadows, David Pearson, Milton Shackleford and Buddy Wood.
