Burial will be at Erick Cemetery under the direction of Fatheree-Albert Funeral Home of Erick. Eunice Mae Gamble was born May 7, 1916 near Rankin, Oklahoma to Bertie and George W. Males and died Tuesday at Elk City at the age of 87. Eunice attended school in Rankin and then in Arizona and Colorado before graduating from Strong City High School. She was teaching at Grimes when she met J.M. Gamble. They were married at Weatherford, Oklahoma on May 1, 1938. Her teaching career spanned 31 years, teaching at Grimes, New Liberty, Corn, Durham, Bulo and her last 28 years at Erick. She also spent 14 years working with Beckham County Rural Water District #2 as the Director. She was a member of the Riverview Extension Club. She has been a member of Delta Kappa Gamma since 1948. Eunice was very active in the community. She was recognized with many awards, including Teacher of the Year for Erick and Beckham County in 1962 and Homemaker of the Year in 1978, Erick Woman of the Year in 1983. Farm Bureaau Outstanding Contribution to Agriculture 1985 and Farm Bureau Family of the Year in 1986. She was a member of the Erick First Baptist Church and taught several youth and adult Sunday School classes. She was preceded in death by her parents; one grandson, Timothy Aaron Gamble; and three brothers, Ernest Males, L.L. "Red" Males and Fred Males. Survivors include her husband, J.M. of the home; one daughter, Mary Ellen Driscoll; one son, Marvin Gamble and wife, Marlene; six grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; one sister, Erma Frankie Gray;one sister-in- law, Lorena G. Males; and a host of other relatives and friends. A Memorial Trust Fund has been set up for the Erick High School c/o First American Bank, P.O. Box 1228, Erick, Oklahoma 73643.
