All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== Surnames: Gantz, Higgins, Wolfe, Potlin, Chastain, Weis, King, Ehrlich, Kerbs Frederick William Gantz was born to Mathias and Marguerite Gantz, May 10, 1883, in Willow Springs, Kansas, just 15 days after their arrival in the United States from Germay. As a young man of 21 years, he located in the bend of the Canadian River near Durham and the Antelope Hills, which he homesteaded in 1904, where he was to make his home of 64 years. In October, 1906, he married Ethel Higgins, and to this union were born four children, 2 boys and 2 girls, Jake, Ula, Alma and George. Will lost his wife, Ethel, in October, 1922, when she became ill with a brain tumor. On May 7, 1924, he married Ella Wolfe of Shattuck, who was a recent immigrant to the United States from Germany. In this union he not only secured a wife and mother for his four children, but he acquired another daughter, Marianna, Ella's child of 5 years. And later born to this union were 3 more daughters, Ruth, Esther and Genevieve, making a family of eight children. The family was reared on the homestead. He continued farming until 1957 and managed cattle until 1959. With age taking its toll and isolation due to neighbors moving away, Will and Ella left their homestead on August 1, 1968 and moved to Shattuck, Oklahoma, where they made their home until April 1976. They gave up housekeeping, due to an accident that Ella suffered in the home, and they were taken into the home of their daughter, Genevieve Ehrlich, norht of Shattuck. After lingin 15 months with Genevieve and husband Robert, they moved to Oklahoma City in July, 1977 into the home of their daughter, Esther, which was to be their home until his death, Monday, October 16, 1978. Surviving are his wife, Ella, of Oklahoma City Souther Oaks Nursing Home; sons, Jake of Anderson, California and George of Palatka, Florida; daughters, Eula Potlin of Lake Placid, Florida, Marianna Chastain, Portland, Oregon, Ruth Weis, Amarillo, Texas, Esther King of Oklahoma City, and Genevieve Ehrlich of Shattuck, Oklahoma, Alma Kerbs preceded him in death in 1970. There are 16 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandechild. Funeral services were conducted in the Shattuck Seventh-day Adventist Church, Sunday, October 22, 1978 at 2 p.m. with burial in the Seventh-Day Adventist Cemetery south of Shattuck.
