Funeral services were Monday, March 27, 2000 at 10:00 a.m. in the First Baptist Churdh of Mooreland, with the Reverend Jim Westmoreland officiating. Burial followed in the Mooreland Cemetery with the Billings Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Florence Maude Kendall Gray was born on February 14, 1914 in Roll, Oklahoma. She was the eldest child of Ernest and Cletis Prestridge Kendall. Florence grew to womanhood at Strong City, Oklahoma, where she attended and graduated from school. She then attended Southwestern Oklahoma State University at Weatherford and the University of Oklahoma at Norman. Florence married Clye McClellan on October 8, 1933. To this union two children were born, Eva Janet and James Elwyn. Florence taught music from the age of 17 until her death. Florence taught school at Srong City, Oklahoma, Red Star School near Leedey and at Mooreland. On December 8, 1951, she married Walter Gray in Clayton, New Mexico. Florence was the painist for the Strong City Baptist Church that her grandfather founded and where she was baptized at an early age. She was also music director for the Mooreland Baptist Church and the Baptist Church at Liberal, Kansas. Florence and Walter made their home in Liberal, Kansas where they ran a motel until 1958. They lived there until building a home in Woodward in 1960. They lived in Woodward until Walter's death in 1975. Florence continued to live in Woodward where she dedicated her time to teach and tutor the many students who came to her. She loved to see her students excel. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Cletis Kendall; her son, James Elwyn McClellan; husband, Walter Gray, grandson, Ronald Dean Starr; and sister Muriel Adams. Florence Maude is survived by her daughter, Janet White and husband, Earl M. of Mooreland, Oklahoma; one grandson, Bob Starr and wife Brenda of Mooreland; two granddaughters, Debra Walker and husband Doug of Freedom, Oklahoma, and Carol Cifers of Mooreland, Oklahoma; great grandchildren, Amy Hayes and husband Ian of Tucson, Arizona, Eric and Dustin Singhisen of Woodward, Oklahoma, John, Teresa, Cody and Danielle Starr and Christine Cifers of Mooreland, Oklahoma; two great-great grandchildren, Connor and Moria Hayes of Tucson, Arizona; two brothers, Elwyn Kendall and wife Betty of Lodi, California, and James Kendall and wife Betty of Midwest City, Oklahoma; two sisters, Dorothy Summitt of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Louise Geteman and husband Joe of Roswell, New Mexico; and a host of other relatives and friends.
