On last Thursday morning about 9 o'clock, January 15, 1925, while the father, Arthur Gray, was moving his truck during the loading of it with broom corn, he had two bales on, and ran over his little son, A.L. Gray, Jr. aged 3 yrs 7 months and 14 days. Before starting the truck Mr. Gray told his two boys to stand to one side and he saw them standing side by side before starting the truck, and soon the older boy, who is about six years old; cried, that little A.L. is killed. The father found his little boy lying under the truck, the solid tired rubber wheel had passed over the boy's chest, and picking up the little body carried it to the house. Dr. Cary, of Rankin, was sent for and when he arrived he found he had died soon after the body was crushed. Little A.L.'s funeral was the following day at 2 p.m., J.M. Vines preaching the sermon in Rankin Methodist Church, and burial in Rankin (now White Rose) cemetery, Reydon, Roger Mills County, OK. Arthur Gray and family have lived in the Rankin community over six years, coming here from Strong City. They first lived four miles west of Rankin, and last few years lived on the John A. Vincent farm in Texas, about ten miles northwest of Rankin. A.L. Jr., was born in Roger Mills County, Oklahoma, June 1, 1921. He leaves to mourn his untimely death his father and mother, one brother and four sisters. The entire community mourns and sympaties with this bereaved family. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Return to Roger Mills Archives http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/rogermills/rogermills.html
