Funeral services were held Monday morning at Forest Grove Memorial Chapel in Forest Grove, with the Rev. Cloyce Drake of Dilley Bible Church officiating. Interment was in Forest View Cemetery, Forest Grove. Mr. Griffey was born November 24, 1917, at Strong City, Oklahoma, a son of James Leory and Malena Downey Griffey. He received his education in Oklahoma and worked on the family farm. He later worked as an operating engineer on road construction in Colorado and California. After his eyesight becam inadequate for machine operation, he moved to Washington County in 1974 and workedf at Haley's Cannery in Hillsboro for four years. On July 19, 1976, he married Vevie McPherren in Lewistron, Idaho. Mr. Griffey enjoyed camping, fishing, hiking, dancing and traveling. He also enjoyed woodworking and made objexts out of driftwood. He also made several hooked rugs. He was a member of the Moose Lodge in Hillsboro until his health failed and also was a member of Forest Grove Elks Lodge 2440. Survivors include his wife, Vevie Griffey, Cornelius; a daughter, Leta Fries, Kennsington, California; two step-sons, James Arnold, Corenlius and Dave Arnold, Green Acres, Washington; two grandchildren, three great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Also surviving are three brothers, Everett Griffey, Sallisaw, Oklahoma, Chester Griffey, Amarillo, Texas; and Frank Griffey of Texas; and three sisters Dessie McClellan and Nellie Myers, both of Cheyenne, Oklahom and Nona Barney, Chaparel, New Mexico. He was preceded in death by a son, Alfred Griffey, Jr., in 1971; a daughter, Lorene Abbott; two brothers, Calvin and Carl Griffey; and a step-son, Richard Hill, in 1984. Forest Grove Memorial Chapel of Forest Grove was in charge of arrangements.
