Services were held in the Higgins High School Auditorium. The Rev. Elroy Wisiam, Jr., pastor of the First United Methodist Church and the Rev. Ken Thompson, pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiated. Masonic graveside services were held in Higgins Cemetery. Arrangements were by Mason Funeral Home of Shattuck, Oklahoma. Mr. Gourley was born in Woods County, Oklahoma. He attended Avard High School, North Western Unviersity in Alva, and Phillips University in Enid. He married Faye Mercer in 1938 in Medford, Oklahoma. He was a school teacher for Reydon, Dacoma, and Fort Supply, and a retired superintendent for Higgins. He was a member of Higgins Masonic Lodge, the Scottish Rite, the christian Church, and was a 32nd Degree Mason. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Charles Lyndon of Philadelphia, Don Gourley of Clarendon, and Gary Gourley of Coppell; two daughters, Mrs. Vina Sullivan of Shattuck, and Ruth Gourley of the home; three brothers, W.E. of Cherokee, Gaines Gourley of Alva; a sister, Mrs. Vina Doughty of Amarillo and six grandchildren.
