Rowlan officiating. Burial will follow in the Cheyenne Cemetery, Cheyenne, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma. John Gowdy was born January 19, 1904 in Magazine, Ark. and passed away Monday, June 29, 1987 at the age of 83 years, 5 months and 10 days. He moved with his parents to Oklahoma in 1907 settling on a farm in the Merritt Community. He moved to the Canute area in 1919 where he graduated from High School in 1927. He attended SWOSU in 19289-1929 where he played on the basketball and baseball teams and also ran track. He was employed by the Paymaster Gin for several years. On September 18, 1932, he was married to Thelma Hatchett in Cloud Chief and she preceded him in death in September 1960. He moved to Cheyenne in 1956 where he's lived since and he worked at the Paymaster Hin. His hobbies were fly fishing and golfing. Mr. Gowdy is survived by one daughter and her husband, Glen and Ann Wootten of Edmond; two sisters: Opal Gowdy of Elk City, Oklahoma and Lorene Hall of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; four brothers: Horace Gowdy of Canute, Gouglas Gowdy of Woodward; Kennetfh Gowdy of Pampa, Texas, and Arlie Hellums of Livingston, Texas. He is also survived by one grandson, Chris Wootten of Edmond, Oklahoma.
