He was born April 7, 1881 in Loursbour, Missouri. He was married September 11, 1904 to Annie Long at Chandler, Oklahoma, who survives. Other survivors are four sons, Afton W. Hughes, Durham, Clarence G. Hughes, Canadian, Texas, James Lowell Hughes, of midwest City and Elmer clyde Hughes, San Ysido, California; two daughters, Leota Santistevan, Aztec, New Mexico, and Emily McDonald, Las Cruces, New Mexico; 4 brothers, Jim Hughes, Maxwell, New Mexico, and Ira S. Hughes, Pueblo, Colorado; twelve grandchildren and two great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. His mother and father and four sisters preceded him in death.
