All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== Amarillo Globe News 28 Apr 1997 Edith Fay Hawkins Edith Fay Hawkins, 90, of Amarillo, died Saturday, April 26, 1997. Services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday in the Bell Avenue Chapel, 5400 Bell Ave., with the Rev. Shad Rue, retired Baptist minister, officiating. Burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Arrangements are by Schooler- Gordon Funeral Directors. Mrs. Hawkins was born in Grimes, Okla. She married Jasper "Dot'' Hawkins in 1923 at Mangum, Okla. They lived in Artesia, N.M., where she worked as a waitress and picked cotton. Two years later, they moved to Erick, Okla., where she and her husband farmed. Later, they moved to Mangum, Okla. In 1930, they moved to Clovis, N.M. Shortly thereafter, they bought a farm in Melrose, N.M. In 1964, the farm was sold and she and her family moved to Amarillo. She was a member of Paramount Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1973 and a daughter, Betty Jo VonWald, in 1974.
