Mr. Hawkins came to Strong City about three years ago and resurrected the Strong City Hearld and has continued that publication up to the time of his death. About two weeks before his demise he went to Clinton and assumed control of the Western News and published onee issue when he suffered an attack of Bright's Disease which caused his death last Friday morning. Mr. Hawkins, an ex-soldier, having served in the Spanish American War and the World War, was an active worker in the American Legion, a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge and also a member of the Baptist church. Rev. Trent of Hammon conducted the funeral services in the church at Strong City. The American Legion and the I.O.O.F. lodge performed thedir last rites at the grave. The casket was covered with a large American Flag, and many beautiful floral offerings literally covered the mound where his body was laid, to rest in the Strong City cemetery, Strong City, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma. Mr. Hawkins leaves to mourn his loss a wife, a son, and a daughter, besides a host of friends, and Strong City loses a good citizen and one of her very best boosters. The Star joins the many friends of the bereaved in extending sincere sympanthy to Mrs. Hawkins and family.
