He passed away July 27, 2005 at Erick, Oklahoma at the age of 80 years, 11 months and 29 days. Elmer grew up in the Mayfield, Oklahoma community where he was a farmer and liked to calf rope in rodeos. He met and marfried Wilma Jean in 1942 and they continued to live in Mayfield, Oklahoma where they had and raised three children. Elmer later molved to Erick, Oklahoma where he met Shirley Ann Davis and they were married in Wheeler, Texas. In the 60's he went to work for American Dusting Company as field manager before going to work for Beckham County. He continued until his retirement in 1989. After his retirement Elmer contributed his time to the Erick Schools by substitue teaching and driving a bus. He enjoyed dancing, camping, fishing, trail riding, telling stories while playing dominos, taking care of his pets and being a faithful friednd to all that knew him. He was a member of Buffalo First Baptistg Church. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Wilma Jean, his wife, Shirley and his parents, Elzra and Fern Howell. Survived by his 3 daughters, Lea Ann Derrick-Carroll, St. Cloud, Florida; Virginia Swirezynski and husband Kevin, Greenvville, Texas; and Ruby Jane Bull, Mangum, Oklahoma; two sons, Melvin Gene and wife Karen, Ft. Gibson, Oklahoma; and Butch Howell and wife Patti, Pocasset, Oklahoma; 11 grandchildren, Michelle, Michael, Tammy, Paul, Allen, Brian, Scott, Shannon, Blake and Jesse, 6 great grandchilddren, 1 great great grandchild, 2 sisters, Joyce Shirley, Erick, Oklahoma; and Lovelled Hill and husband Carl, Mayfield, Oklahoma; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. A memorial service was helf Saturday, July 30, 2005 at 10:00 at Buffalo Baptist Church. Graveside Services will be held at Buffalo Cemetery, Beckham County, Oklahoma officiated by Charlie Floyd under the direction of Fatheree-Albert Funeral Home.
