Bill made a record of which his relatives and friendsw may well, feel proud. On account of his good conduct and ability at Camp Travis, he was made a corporal and drill master. This office he held at the time of death. The letter published elsewhere in this issued shows the notled account he gaqve of himself as a warrior. He has fought our battle. He has been victorious, but has given his life in doing so. Every man, woman and child in Strong City and community owes a debt of gratitude to Bill Hill which can never be paid. William Dow Hill was born in Oran, Palo Pinto County, Texas, March 23, 1890; moved with his parents to Henryetta where his mother died January 28, 1891. His mother requested Mr. and Mrs. Hill to care for their baby after her death. Willie, as he was then called, was taken into their hearts and home and loved as their own. In 1894 he moved with Mr. and Mrs. Hill to Kenia, Illinois, where he received his education. Willie then moved with Mr. and Mrs. Hill to Oklahoma in 1908; was employed by Girdner Mer. Co. at the time he was called to the colors, February 23, 1918; was entrained at Camp Travis and landed in France June 29, 1918. Will wa an upright ands promising young man. At home as in service, he was ever to be relied upon. His friends were numbered by those who knew him. Word was received by his parents November 21, 1918 from the War Department that Will was killed in action in the last great battle October 23, 1918. He was 28 years and 7 months old. He leaves father and mother, three sisters and two brothers, one of whom lives in Mineral Wells, Texas, to mourn his loss.
