He passed from this life on October 16, 2004 in the Leedey Nursing Center. Leon spent most of his childhood years in and around the Leedey area. He attended school in Eureka, Oklahoma through the 8th grade. On September 1, 1942, at the courthouse in Arapaho, Oklahoma Leon and Loretta Addington were united in marriage. To this union were born, Guy, Dale, Jo, Eldon, and Roy Lee. The couple established their home in Leedey, Oklahoma. Shortly after their marriage, Leon entered the service. On December 21, 1942 Leon was inducted into the U.S. Army. He served in WW II and attained rank of Private First class. During his service to his country he was awarded several medals, ribbons, and badges. He received the WWII Victory Ribbon, the APTC Ribbon with one Bronze Service Star, the EAME Ribbon with 3 Bronze Service Stars, a Purple Heart, the Combat Inf. Badge, and ATCM. Leon was then injured in action on April 14, 1945 in Italy, several months later he was honorably dischared from the service. Upon his return home, Leon began a 17-year career as a civil servant at Clinton Sherman Air Force Base. He then retired while employed with Dewey Coounty. Leon's hobbies were pllaying dominos, hunting, fishing, gardening, and most of all spending time with his family. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Leedey, Oklahoma. He was also a member of several organizations such as the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. Preceding Leon in death were his parents, Albert and Ruby Haney; his brothers, Frank and Paul Haney; sisters, Oleta Kauk and Betty Henderson; one son, Roy Lee Haney; one granddaughter, Michelle Haney Anderson; one grandson; and one great grandson, Jantz Calaway. Surviving Leon is his wife, Loretta of Leedey, oklahoma; sons, Gary and wife Karen of Elk City, Oklahoma, Dale and wife Susan of Elk City, Oklahoma, Eldon and wife Cathy of Leedey, Oklahoma; his daughter, Jo Mahaffey and husband Bruce of Eufaula, Oklahoma; two sisters, Jolene Grant and husband Grant of Cheyenne, Oklahoma and Ovada Kauk of Butler, Oklahoma, 15 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and other family members and a host of friends. Services were held Tuesday, October 19, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. in the First Baptist Church of Leedey, Oklahoma. Interment followed at New Hermon Cemetery, Leedey, Dewey County, OK . Shaw Funeral Home of Leedey, Oklahoma arranged and conducted the services.
