"Bill" Hanawalt, was born June 29, 1928 in Roll, Oklahoma to Curtis and Stella Hanawalt. He departed his life away December 31, 2003 in Roger Mills Memorial Hospital, Cheyenne, Oklahoma at the age of 75 years, 6 months and 2 days. Bill spent most of his adult years in Las Vegas managing a large supermarket. He later returned to Cheyenne in 1978 where he purvchased the variety store from Eddie Lee McDaniel. Bill had no hobbies, he just enjoyed visiting his friends and neighbors and loved to travel. Bill served his country with the U.S. Army and was a veteran of the Korean War. He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Helen, and 1 grandson, Kelly Paul Hayward. Services were held Saturday January 3, 2004 at 10:00 AM at Cheyenne First United Methodist Church, officiated by Rev. Don Harrold and Dr. Billy Wheeler. Burial was in the Silent Home Cemetery, Roll, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma under the direction of Rose Chapel Funeral Service. Survivors include a host of relatives and friends; wife, Betty Hanawalt of the home; 8 step children Ruth Howell of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Fred Koch of Las Vegas, Nevada, Carla Kendall Coompton and husband, Stan of Washington, Jalene Kendall Parkhurst and husband, Austin of Arkansas, Ginger Kendall Pope and husband Rodney of Sayre, Oklahoma, Kimberly Kendall Rogers and husband Clay of Missouri, Neal Kendall of Cheyenne, Oklahoma, Roger Kendall and wife, Judith of Melbourne, Australia; 9 step grandchildren and 1 sister Beth Briggs of Weatherford, Oklahoma; and 1 great step grandchild.
