Hammons were conducted at the Baptist church Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. with Rev. W.L. Magar officiating. Burial was in Red Hill Cemetery, Hammon, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma. Tip Jones Hammons was born December 18, 1895 in Knox County, Kentucky; departed this life at Elk City, Oklahoma, May 21, 1951 at the age of 55 years 5 months and 3 days. He united in marriage to Esteline Hammons at Cheyenne, Oklahoma, October 25, 1924. To this union five children were born. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Cheyenne, the Odd Fellows Lodge and the American Legion. He was a veteran of World War I, with many months of overseas service. Survivors include his widow, two sons, Ernest Hammons, Hammon, Veryl Hammons, Ft. Hood, Texas; three daughteers, Nova Lee Johnson, Oklahoma City, Joyvee and Mona Lou Hammons, home address; his mother, Mrs. Ora Pickens, Leedey, Oklahoma; two brothers, Gene, Wichita, Kansas, and George, Denver, Colorado; two sisters, Mrs. Dorothy Hood, Guthrie, and Mrs. Rebecca Houston, San Pedro, California, four grandchildren and a host of other relattives. Mr. Hammons served his community as Postmaster fourteen years, and for the past year has been mail carrier on Route 2, and as was his custom in time of war to serve his country, he also served his community in peacetime with a true spirit of devotion. He was a devoted husband and father, and his friends are numberfed by those who kn ew him.
