Lance was a cattle rancher all of his adult life, aside from serving in the United States Navy during World War II. He served in the Pacific Theater, earning medals and an honorable discharge in February of 1946. He was a member of the Lions Club while residing in Oklahoma and was also a past member of the "Y" Service in Dos Palos. Lance made a public confession of his faith in the Lord Jesus Christ on June 11, 1951. Lance, along with his wife Doris and son Leon were baptized by Brother Cook in Parker Pond. Lance is survived by his wife, Doris Irene Harrel of Dos Palos; a son Orville Leon Harrel of Kerrville, Texas; two daughters, Donna Buie and Darla J. Harrel of Dos Palos; two brothers, Celo Jackson "Jack" Harrel of Kingfisher, Oklahoma and Donald Harrel of Elk City, Oklahoma; a sister, Oleta Harrel of Cyril, Oklahoma; seven grandchildren and eight great- grandchildren. A memorial service was hele in Dos Palos on Wednesday, July 23, 2003 at Cantrell's Farm. Melvin Harrel officiated the service. Melvin and Millie Harrel sang, "Cool Clear Water," a personal request of Lance's. Donna's daughter, Karla and husband, Paul Manlewy sang "The Dance." Funeral servvices were held Saturday, July 26, 2003 at the Leedey First Baptist Church, Leedey, Oklahoma with interment following at Shirley Cemetery, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma. Services conducted by Shaw Funeral Home, Leedey, Oklahoma.
