Hugh Wesley Harris was dead at the scene of the accident from multiple injuries and his body was found pinned under the car by passers-by today. The accident apparently occurred as Harris was east bound on SH6 about six miles west of Elk City and his 1970 Chevrolet Malibu left the roadway on the north side of the highway, traveled 194 feet down the ditch, ran into a private drive embankment and went airborne for 46 feet. After the car landed it went into a side skid and rolled, ejecting Harris and pinning him under the vehicle. Oklahoma Highway patrol Trooper Frank Mayer, Sayre, investigated the accident this morning and talked to one man who passed by the accident at 3 a.m. and the vehicle at that time, but thought the accident had already been taken care of. Mayer reported that seat belts were equipped, but not in use. Another accident reported today by the Elk City Police Department included an injury Sunday afternoon in Elk City in the 100 block of W. Third. Charles Deeley Brothers, 20, Cheyenne, a passenger in one of the cars involved, was reportedly injured when the car in which he was riding struck another in the rear. Joe Dennis Freeman, 17, of Cheyenne was issued a citation for following too closely when his 1970 Ambassador Hornet struck the rear of an eastbound 1968 Chevrolet driven by James Emmett Smith, 17, of Sayre. Investigating officer Gary Woodrow estimated damage at $350. to the Freeman Hornet and at $150. to the Chevrolet.
