Services were held March 22, 2010 at the First Baptist Church of Sayre under the direction of Rose Chapel Funeral Service in Sayre. The family suggests memorial gifts in Rosa's named be made to Sayre First Baptist Church or a favorite charity in lieu of flowers. After living in Cheyenne, where her father died, the family later moved to the Dempsey/Meadow Brook community and Rosa graduated from Reydon High School in 1937. In 1939, she married Bill Howell and they had one daughter, Shirley. They soon moved to the Buffalo community near Sweetwater, where Rosa worked for the Sweetwater School and later moved to Sayre. Rosa worked as a nurse aide and later as an LPN at the Sayre hospital. Bill Howell preceded Rosa in death in 1979 and she married the Rev. Lynn Heard in 1985. Soon after his death, she moved to the Mennonite assisted Living Center at Corn, Oklahoma. Rosa was always active in the Baptist Church and often taught Sunday School at the Mennonite Church in Corn. As her health declined, she moved to Clinton to be closer to family and lived at the Methodist Apartments and later at the Assisted Living Center. She is survived by her daughter, Shirley Howell Kyser and family of Lexington, Oklahoma; Rev. Heard's children, Bill Heard of Auke Bay, Alaska, Mary Haynes of Richardson, Texas, and Anita Phillips of Edmond, Oklahoma and their families; a sister, Vera Peters, of Clinton, and a brother, Franklin J. King, of Harrison, Tennessee, and their families, A sister, Sula Pennington Anderson, of Lancaster, California, preceded Rosa in death in 2005. Rosa will be remembered fondly by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends and former patients as a caring and sharing woman of great faith. She will also be remembered for having crocheted caps for the babies born at the Sayre Hospital and for cancer patients in Sayre, Oklahoma City and Harrison, Tennessee.
