Memorial services were held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church with Dr. Ed Rogers, retired minister, officiating. Private burial was in Lane Memorial Cemetery in Sunray, Texas by Morrison Funeral Home. Howard Hinton was born September 4, 1929, in Indianola, Oklahoma, to Ivan and Myrtle Hinton. Ivan Hinton worked on the Wickham Ranch and during this time his children attended the Strong City school. They moved from Oklahoma to Sunray in 1942. He attended Sunray High School where he was a member of the school's first football team. Howard married Caroline Worst of Sunray and they recently celebrated their 59th anniversary. He was a former resident of Gruver, Texas where he farmed. He was the first meeter prover with Diamond Shamrock, in 1995; he retired as superindent of pipelines and terminals after a 41-year career. Howard loved to fish, hunt, work on "his place." work with children at church and backpack with his grandchildren. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 1009, where he served as Deputy Grand Master, and was deacon of First Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Viola Richardson, in 2007. Survivors include his wife, Caroline, three daughters, Stephanie Petersen of Grass Valley, California; Staria Myers and husband Cody of Amarillo, Texas and Shelley Breedy and husband Kyle of Flower Mound, Texs, a son, John Hinton and wife, Karen of Weatherford, Texas, seven grandchildren and one sister Ellen June Howards of Deer Park and countless other relatives and friends.
