Hocker were held Tuesday, November 16, 2010 at the Martin Funeral Home Chapel of Elk City. Interment was in the Berlin Cemetery under the direction of Martin Funeral Home of Elk City. An online registry available at www.martinfhok.com Laurence Raymond Hocker was born February 9, 1925, at Berlin, Oklahoma to Marion and Etta Mae (Eldridge) Hocker and passed away Friday, November 12, 2010 at the age of 85. After graduation from Berlin High School, Laurence entered the U.S. Navy, where he served his country on the USS Mississippi during WW II. He was a Purple Heart and Bronze Star recipient. He was wounded during the Leyte Gulf battle and, after his discharge, was advised by the Naval Medical Staff to buy a motorcycle and tour the country, which he did. He started a career with the Purina Company in Oklahoma City in 1953 and retired after some 30 years of employment. He continued to ride motorcycles on vacations and trips until he was 80 years old. Laurence was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and three sisters. Survivors include one sister, Mary Thomas of Oklahoma City; and many nieces, nephews and other family members.
