Mr. Keswater had been in poor health for the past few years, and had been confined to his home for a number of weeks, his condition being serious for about two weeks before his passing. August Keswater was born in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, September 4, 1856, his parents coming to Wisconsin from Germany a few years prior to his birth. In 1886 he was married to Emma Mallman and to this union two children were born, Norma and Arthur, both of whom survive. The former, Mrs. Shears resides at Norman, Oklahoma, and the son, Arthur Keswater, resides in Cheyenne, as does the wife of the deceased. Mr. Keswater came to Oklahoma in 1898, settling at Wynnewood in the old Indian Territory. When Elk City was a town of tents he went to that city and there he resided for a while then moving to Strong City and established a meat market. Fourteen years ago he moved to Cheyenne and established a meat market, which starting on a mere shoestring, he and his son developed into one of the best markets in West Oklahoma. A. Keswater was a natural business man and understood thoroughly the market business. He liked the town of Cheyenne and it was his desire that he might spend the last years of his life in this city. In early life Mr. Keswater united with the Lutheran church, to which faith he held throughout life. Mr. Keswater was a man who possessed a strong devotion for his family and for his friends. He would do anything for those whom he considered his friends, and those who were his close friends recognized in him a strong character and feel a loss in his passing. Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon in the Methodist church of Cheyenne with Rev. Carleton of the Baptist church preaching the funeral sermon, after which the remains were laid to rest in the Cheyenne cemetery, Cheyenne, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma in the presence of sorrowing friends.
