He grew up on the Lacey homestead in the Kiowa community and attended Hammon schools. While visiting other members of this family in Porter, Oklahoma he met and married Gracia "Lawanda" Denson. To this union were born five children: Ronnie, Bruce, Frank, James, and Dawanna. After the birth of his first child, the family moved to California where LeRoy worked as a machinst. They moved to Kansas in 1967. Lawanda died October 3, 1970 in an automobile accident. For the past several years, LeRoy suffered from emphysema. His children stood by helping him to cope. "God saw he was getting tired and a cure was not to be. So he put his arms around him and whispered "come with me." With tearful eyes we watched him suffer and saw him fade away. Although we couldn't bear to lose him, we could not bid him stay. A golden heart stopped beating, hard working hands laid to rest, God broke our hearts to prove to us, he only takes the best." LeRoy was preceded in death by his wife, Lawanda and his parents, Fred and Etta Lacey; brothers, R.J. and Ray and sister, Fay. He is survived by his children: Ronnie of Casady, Kansas; Bruce of Potwin, Kansas, Frank of Leon, Kansas and James of Casady and daughter Dawanna Mauldin of El Doraado, Kansas and a sister Mary Etta "Billie" Cash, Muskogee, Oklahoma; grandchildren: Bruce Lacey, Jr., Ashley Hobbs, James Mauldin, and Dylan Mauldin; great grandchildren: Taylor Lacey and Paige Lacey. Memorial service was held at Sunset Lawns Cemetery at El Dorado, Kansas on Friday, November 16, 2001. Cheyenne Star, Cheyenne, OK
