Lacey died late Wednesday, November 10, 2004, at his home. He was born on January 11, 1928 at Strong City, Oklahoma, the son of JT and Nona Lee Leddy Lacey. He spent his early years in Strong City and Cheyenne. His father died when he was nine years old. His mother later married William O. "Bill" Hill. Lacey enlisted in the army at the age of 17 and served during World War II and the Korean War as a medic. He was stationed in Tokyo. While serving at Fort Sill he married Miss Joyce Carol Brown on November 2, 1950 at Cheyenne. After his honorable discharge, the couple lived in Cheyenne, Durham and Custer City before eventually moving to Clinton. While working nights at J.C. Penny's Lacey attended Southwestern Oklahoma State University and received his teaching degree in 1963 after which he taught art at Clinton High School. He attended night school and earned his Master's Degree in 1965. Lacey went to work for the Oklahoma State Department of Vocational Rehabilitation as a counsler, serving for 36 years before retiring in 1993. In his spare time, Lacey raised paint horses and Blue Healer and Austrian Shepherd dogs. He also enjoyed gardening, artwork and fishing. He was a member of the First Christian Church, VFW, American Legion and Evening Lions Club and he was a Masov/32 degree Mason. Preceding him in death were his parents; his stepfather William O. "Bill" Hill; anf his son Neal Lacey. Burial was held in the Clinton Cemetery under the direction of the Stanley- Lee Funeral Home in Clinton. Survivors include his wife, Joyce, of the home; two daughters, Sparla Dick anf her husband Curtis of Winfield, Kansas, Charlene Butler and her husband, Dr. Jack Butler, of Gilbert, Arizona; a sister Nina Payne of Elk City; six grandchildren, Shanna Trujillo and her husband, Ben, of Manhattan, Kansas, Aaron Dick of Overland Park, Kansas, Amber Whitwoorth of Tempe, Arizona, Sarah and Aleah Butler, both of Gilbert, Arizona, Angelique Morton and her husband, Steve, of Oklahoma City; four great grandchildren, Madyson and Delany Trujillo, Jace Mank, Riley Morton; Aunt Minnie Hillman of Roll, Okl,ahoma; Uncle A.T. Leddy of Cheyenne, Oklahoma and Uncle Loyd Leddey of California; nephew Ron Payne and wife Karol of Stillwater; and numerous cousins, grandnieces and grandnephews and special friends, Dean and Betty Cunningham of Moore and Irene Smith of Clinton. The family suggests that those who desire may make memorial contributions in Soney's honor to the First Christian Church or the Western Oklahoma Hospice.
