Roland Youngberg. A private burial will be held later in the Butler Cemetery. Lain died Thursday, February 24, 2011, in his Butler home. He was born June 26, 1924, in Dill City, the son of Gideon and Florence (Hubbard) Lain. Reared in Dill City, he graduated from Dill City High School in 1942. He enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard, where he served during World War II. He was honorably discharged in 1946 and returned home. He married Ruth B. Sherbourne June 9, 1946, in Butler. Lain attended Oklahoma A&M and later Southwestern State University in Weatherford where he obtained his bachelor's degree in math. He continued his education by obtaining a master's degree in school administration at Oklahoma A&M. His teaching career led him to Clinton, Cheyenne, Reydon, Tahleguah, Woodward and Goodwell, most of which he served as either an assistant superintendent or superintendent. When he retired, he moved back to Butler, and his wife preceded him in death in 1998. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church. Also preceding him in death were his parents and nine brothers and sisters. Arrangements are under direction of the Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home in Clinton. Survivors include two sons, Steven Lain, Lubbock, Texas, and Joe Bill Lain and his wife, Jennifer, Clearwater, Fla., a sister, Bea Underwood, Fort Worth, Texas and four grandchildren. Clinton (Okla.)
