Leary after a short illnesss caused by a stroke of paralysis. John E. Leary was born in Kingsown, Toronto, Canada, in 1854. He came to Cheyenne at the opening of the county and homesteaded a claim one mile west and a half mile south of town. He served the people of this county in the capacity of County judge in the early days and was for many years a strong political influence. His life was full of activity and he helped to blaze the way for civilization in this new country of ours. He was a real pioneer in whom there was much good. He married at this place and reared a large family. For many years John E. Leary enjoyed much prosperity, but the time came in his life, when reverses came, and life did not hold out for him the opportunities of former days, the future must have been very dark for him, but much to his credit, he never complained; when those whom he held dear seemingly turned against him, he never spoke evil. Such action only bespeaks the strong manhood that he possessed. He was baptized into the Espiscopla church and before he end came he indicated by words and even after he was speechless he indicateds by writing that he was ready to meet his God. Funeral services were conducted at the Methodist Church by Rev. Stout, pastor of the Methodist church of Hammon. A splendid talk by County Attorney W.H. Mouser on the life of the deceased, was given, after which the remains were laied to rest in the Cheyenne cemetery, Cheyenne, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma beneath a green blankeet decked with floral offerings of his friends and loved ones. We join the host of friends of the deceased in extending condolence to those who mourn his demise.
